Change of Tides: Seattles Music Scene Rockin’ Again
With all the tightened belts and new regulations imposed by Washington state legislation, entertainment venues are searching for a strong hold in this falling market.
More than 10 years ago you could find a party on every block in every Seattle neighborhood. Live rock bands of every genre and type would let their music fill the air as party goers filled their cups and enjoyed the night.
After a while, the music mainstream took a turn from pop rock and alternative rock and headed into a Heavy Metal and Hip hop/Rap scene. Those two genre’s were most of what you would find blazing through the clubs. Dj’s and MC’s were making a killing just spinning the right sounds and music, and talking to the party.
It seems that now, things are changing once again. There seems to be a link between Hip/Rap and Heavy Metal, and all the violence, obsessive drinking, littering and gang violence through out Seattle.
So, as the city takes a harsher tone against the venues to put a stop to these ‘coincidences’, the venues have taken a stand to try and bring back the Seattle that was.
From Grunge, Folk, Punk, Alternative and Hard Rock, Seattle used to be ripe with the sounds of ultra-cool solo’s and mind bending rhythms. College students and post grads could be found everywhere enjoying the entertainment.
I find it amazing that when you ask someone where to find a good place to go and listen to music, they say; “I don’t know..” and they don’t! They seriously have not heard of any good places to head out and have a good night. Aside from radio stations pumping up big events that cost $15 a pop or more.
What happened? Well, my theory is that things got boring, and to risky. When you can invite 10 of your closes friends over, turn the radio up and drink liqour for cheap, why go out?
The clubs and venues were not providing a service that you can’t find anywhere else.
So now what?
Well, it seems that the venues, clubs and bars have decided that its time to go back to Rock.
There were some who said Rock and its history would fade away, that a new era of music would come about. But when times get tough, you have to go back to what has been proven to work.
So! As a rising Entreprenuer in Seattle Music Scene, I am doing everything I can to breath the Soul back into to the scene.
Rock bands, artists, and musicians a like are being spot lighted. Now is the chance to bring it back.
Seattle has a long heritage of Rock and Roll, and its time to see it come back again.
